{"id":4560,"date":"2014-11-12T17:16:20","date_gmt":"2014-11-12T16:16:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.b.shuttle.de\/hayek\/hayek\/jochen\/wp\/blog-en\/?p=4560"},"modified":"2014-11-12T17:16:20","modified_gmt":"2014-11-12T16:16:20","slug":"upgrading-opensuse-again-opensuse-13-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.jochen.hayek.name\/blog-en\/2014\/11\/12\/upgrading-opensuse-again-opensuse-13-2\/","title":{"rendered":"upgrading openSUSE again: openSUSE-13.2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tAs decided during my last upgrade (\u2026-&gt;13.1) I am now taking the &#8220;<em>complete DVD<\/em>&#8221; approach.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I will have this upgrade resp. installation on exactly 2 (virtual) machines (MacBook Pro + Mac mini &#8220;Alternate Edition&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>The ISO image download takes less than one hour.<\/li>\n<li>I am expecting a far faster installation \u2013 less than 3 hours as opposed to an at least 12 hours installation &#8220;<em>over the network<\/em>&#8221; \u2013 and the mere installation took even less than 10 minutes<\/li>\n<li>VirtualBox makes use of yet another ISO image, that it downloads itself (after suggesting and expecting the user&#8217;s confirmation) and puts it here: \/Applications\/VirtualBox.app\/Contents\/MacOS\/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso \u2013 I hardlinked that file to $HOME\/DVD_images\/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso, and I mounted it to the IDE controllers, so that the VM set up works more smoothly<\/li>\n<li>\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Basic configuration:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>stopped the firewall for the time being<\/li>\n<li>start SSHD through Network Services \/ Services Manager<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Actually one of my main tasks on my last upgrade agenda is still open:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>re-installing \/ upgrading my CV authoring software<\/li>\n<li>\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To be checked afterwards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Does the Java banking software still run?<\/li>\n<li>\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Open issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As decided during my last upgrade (\u2026-&gt;13.1) I am now taking the &#8220;complete DVD&#8221; approach.
