completing the set-up of my MacBook Pro (13.3-inch – “MacBookPro15,2”)
This nice device was BJH’s 1st own MacBook at all. He bought it refurbished. Quite some while after not really using it, he noticed, the battery is weak, and the fan was too loud (for him).
Actually I think he only needs a gaming computer and an iPad and nothing else. The MacBook Air I bought for him is something he makes no use of at all. Whatever …
The software I want to get installed on it:

- pdftohtml -xml – “pdftohtml”, that comes with Poppler, seems to support “-xml” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poppler_(software)

upgrading my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) from macOS Mojave (AKA 10.14) to … hopefully Sonoma (AKA 14) …
What an adventure …
They let me upgrade directly from Mojave (AKA 10.14) to Sonoma (AKA 14).
Until 2021 I was pretty much always pretty uptodate on my Macs and on my Synology DiskStations. But then a few young fools frightened me, and I got stuck for ages with outdated OS versions.
I finally had to upgrade my MacBook Pro, as a few essential packages do not run any longer resp. got announced to stop running soon:

At least I do not have to expect upgrade disasters as with Linux in the 199x and 200x. But still … – with macOS at one stage file systems other than /users were read only “by OS”, even sudo did not help any longer. How terrible that was.
Right now I am only downloading the upgrade to Sonoma. I will find out, how the other upgrades work out!

emacs vs macOS keyboard shortcuts
In emacs I certainly use “ctrl-SPACE” a lot in order to mark a location in a a buffer. On macOS that is by default already taken. But you can change it anyway. Read the article above!
Where it says “In the list on the left, select a category”, select “Input Sources”! Here we are.

WordPress “Share this post” – how to get rid of it?
Most of the time I don’t want to share my posts on LinkedIn or wherever. It’s just their way of getting me to subscribe to a Jetpack premium service. I do understand, they need to make some money – for sure. But I just don’t want to get reminded I exceeded the number of free sharings per month. I rather don’t want to use the free sharings at all. Maybe somebody comes across this post and let’s me know 🙏

there is time for pop music, for RnR, for RaB, and for jazz … – but jazz is THE MUSIC
based on Ecclesiastes 3.
quite some years ago a dear friend called my kind of jazz “elevator music”, but then …:

I started something new today: every (important) person will get its “open issues” file on my NAS
apart from the “open issues” file, I also keep a diary file for some people – apart from that they have “their entries” on my main diary (~/diary) of course.
- diskstation999:persons/person999/000README--open_issues.txt
- diskstation999:persons/person999/initials.diary
- ~/diary
yes, I am worse than Stasi in a way.
when did “this nerd” (that’s me) last mention, I now have 6 NAS-s running? 🤩😎
I know, that’s far too many – and I would quite like to give one or two away, and also to have one (at least) in a remote place, i.e. like for getting around disasters like fire or earth quake in my “home computing center”.
