upgrading openSUSE again: openSUSE-13.2

As decided during my last upgrade (…->13.1) I am now taking the “complete DVD” approach.

  • I will have this upgrade resp. installation on exactly 2 (virtual) machines (MacBook Pro + Mac mini “Alternate Edition”)
  • The ISO image download takes less than one hour.
  • I am expecting a far faster installation – less than 3 hours as opposed to an at least 12 hours installation “over the network” – and the mere installation took even less than 10 minutes
  • VirtualBox makes use of yet another ISO image, that it downloads itself (after suggesting and expecting the user’s confirmation) and puts it here: /Applications/VirtualBox.app/Contents/MacOS/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso – I hardlinked that file to $HOME/DVD_images/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso, and I mounted it to the IDE controllers, so that the VM set up works more smoothly

Basic configuration:

  • stopped the firewall for the time being
  • start SSHD through Network Services / Services Manager

Actually one of my main tasks on my last upgrade agenda is still open:

  • re-installing / upgrading my CV authoring software

To be checked afterwards:

  • Does the Java banking software still run?
